POLL HEREFORDS FEATURE
Despite tough weather conditions, the Poll Hereford Breed held a very successful feature show on Saturday at the annual Wangaratta Agricultural and Industrial Show. “Even though there were late withdrawals due to the fires South of here, we still had 30 head of cattle and 10 junior handlers through the Poll Hereford ring” organising committee member, Mrs Trish Forrest said. “This was well in excess of the Poll Hereford entries at this year’s Melbourne Royal Show” she went on to say.
Judge, Mr Duncan Newcomen from Yea commented on the quality of cattle presented particularly given drought conditions and Mr Daryl Pearson, President of the Wangaratta Agricultural and Industrial Show Society said “Congratulations to the North East Poll Hereford Breeders Group for their organization of this very successful feature breed section, it was a real credit to their breed”.
Top honours of the feature show went to Rosstulla Albert A59, owned and exhibited by the Forrest family of Beechworth. He went on to win the champion male of all beef breeds and supreme champion exhibit of the show. Most successful exhibitor was the Nooken stud from Thornton; Grand Champion Female was Paige Cuetwosix, owned and exhibited by the Bolton Family of Mooroopna and first in the VASA Junior Handler was Ben Robinson from Yackandandah.
